Andrew Carrazzo answers your questions after yesterday's loss to Hawthorn
You're a brave man to take questions today Carrots, nonetheless. Great year from you mate...what do you think went wrong today and could you give us an update on Bower, Tex and Mclean
Andrew Carrazzo: Hi Zee, we didn’t bring the needed intensity and run to play against a well drilled team like the hawks. Our ball use was also poor which played into their hands, all in all a very disappointing day. Updates on the boys. Brock will push for selection this week if all goes to plan with his training. Walks and Pauly will also be pretty close but may need another week.

Hey andrew no doubt hawks came out to play but blues where never within striking distance what dos the team do after a loss as massive as this?
Also gibbs needs to be playing midfield thats where he plays he's best footy thanks andrew
Andrew Carrazzo: We have to go through the review and identify the areas we struggled in. then we look to mold training around those improvement areas. It’s a tough one with Gibbsy Even. With Walks and Bower down our run from the back line is limited. Gibba down there gives our backline more creativity and run. We’d love to have him in both areas.

Inconsistency is still an issue for the Carlton Team. What is the team trying to do to overcome this.
Do you belive the team is as focused for a game against a team near the bottom compared to say a Geelong.
Andrew Carrazzo: Thanks for the question Peter. People see Hawthorn’s recent form and think they should be a push over but that’s simply not the case. They had 16 premiership players playing yesterday and with that much quality and talent they can turn on a great performance any week. We didn’t take them lightly yesterday, they were simply too good on the day. Consistency is an issue for us at the moment. It’s frustrating to us as I’m sure it is to the supporters. Óur approach pregame was good but we couldn’t sustain it for long enough periods. The best we can do is prepare for every game the same way and try to have the same approach to being ruthless week in week out.

Hey Carrots,
I went to the match this afternoon and came away feeling pretty disappointed. In the 3rd quarter the boys seemed to pick up their game with a few quick goals by Hender and Mitchy Rob, what I'd like to know is, how do Carlton get their confidence back? is it a matter of kicking more goals or is it something else?
Andrew Carrazzo: Hi Sarah. Footy is a game of momentum, when your team has it you have to capatalise and hit the scoreboard. We had all the play in the 3rd quarter and we couldn’t convert as many chances as we should have. Once that momentum changed and Hawthorn had the flow they scored easily and that can be deflating sometimes. Our confidence isn’t always going to be sky high we have to get better at grinding our wins when we aren’t playing perfect football, like last week against Port Adelaide.

Andrew, why is it that it seems that we dont have an effective system when kicking tha ball in from a behind? I realise we dont have a Josh Drummond or Lindsay Gilbee, but it seems that we just kick and hope, we rarely bust the lines like the Pies do with Heath Shaw?? The way teams set up full ground zones now it can be hard to break through from kickins. It’s an area we do need to improve. Seeing as we don’t have the josh Drummond/gilbee type we need to work it out better as a team.
Andrew Carrazzo: Hi Rod, it’s certainly not a kick and hope scenario there are a number of plans we try to implement, you are right the way teams do set up full ground zones it can be very difficult to breakthrough. It is something that we have been working on and will continue to work on.
Damo - 6:06 PM Sunday, 23 May 2010
g'day carrots, im not too fussed on the match today
but i wonder why the team continues to struggle against the hawks and the bombers? they aren't top 4 teams, and we should be able to defeat them
Andrew Carrazzo: It’s as frustrating to us as it is you Damo and other supporters. Maybe those teams grow a leg when they play us, maybe we don’t bring our A game. They would come into the game confident of past experiences against us so we have to learn to dig in and fight our way to a victory.

Hearing the pre-game hype was all about Carlton playing a defensive game in order to win... Today, do you think focusing on this rather than your proven, attacking at all costs, frantic method of moving it on and backing yourself - something in previous weeks started to look natural, cost us this week when in the heat of battle? Causing us to loose our way and get rolled?
Andrew Carrazzo: Laurie it has to be a balance. It can’t be all one way. The best teams have the balance down pat. We have a naturally attacking team so we have to work hard to get our defensive game in order. Obviously we had neither going well yesterday. But a defensive attitude is what wins finals and premierships so we have to stick to that mindset whilst not losing our naturally attacking style.

Well i thought carlton played a terrible game because of the errors and the fact that we had 5-6 easy chances which we just threw away, especially in that key 3rd quater when we needed those goals then. But despite this can i ask what did we do wrong today despite this thanks carrots you legend.
Andrew Carrazzo: Jack Hawthorn beat us at the contest all day, our ball movement and effectiveness was also poor. Playing against a good zoning team you need to be precise and we weren’t. Getting back into the game in the 3rd was good but we still didn’t take enough of our chances. A very disappointing day.
Steve - 6:22 PM Sunday, 23 May 2010
Big Sammy Jacobs really stood up today which was great to see. Do you think there is room in the side for our 4 ruckmen throughout the year?
Andrew Carrazzo: Probably not all four. You need enough rotations for the mids, fwds and back. Having 4 ruckmen in the same side would take away some of our run. Sammy has really stepped up this year. He has worked his tail off and he deserves to be playing well.
Debra - 6:23 PM Sunday, 23 May 2010
Hi Andrew. Bad luck today. What mindset will you guys be taking into next weekends match against the Eagles?
Andrew Carrazzo: G’day Debra, next week is a great opportunity to get back to what we want to achieve and correct areas in the game where we want to improve. The great thing about our game is that you have a game within seven days to turn things around, and we will be hungry this week to put in a much better performance.
GB - 6:43 PM Sunday, 23 May 2010
Hi Andrew - it was a disappointing game for supporters and players alike I'm sure. What is the team strategy for recovery (physical and mental) after such a bad loss and any idea on the severity of the injuries for Yaz, White and Johnson?
Andrew Carrazzo: We are very lucky to have state of the art recovery facilities here at Visy park. Being 3 or 4 players down yesterday didn’t help our cause. The boys who were injured will all be assessed this morning and hopefully their injuries aren’t serious.
Delta - 8:08 PM Sunday, 23 May 2010
Andrew,
Once again Carlton lose, when expected to win. I believe the Carlton players get caught up with the hype from the media and think all they need to do to win is show up.
Do you believe today's game was lost because of ability or because half the team thought the game was won when the commentators were tipping Carlton?
I am so frustrated with the teams inconsistancy and ability to win multiple games in a row, come on blue baggers.
Andrew Carrazzo: Delta, I’m sure you echo the thoughts and feelings of most supporters. We certainly didn’t come into the game counting the victory; there are no easy victories in the AFL these days. Hawthorn were simply too good in a number of areas. We didn’t bring our A game which played into their hands.
