For the third successive year Carlton will be involved in the season opener against Richmond at the MCG on a Thursday night. In 2009 the match attracted a crowd of nearly 87,000 and was the start of the second successive year Carlton attracted over one million people to their games in the 22 home & away matches.

The Blues first home game of the season will be a traditional blockbuster against Essendon at the MCG in round three, on Friday April 10, with two big home games in rounds five and six against Geelong and Collingwood expected to draw bumper crowds and big television audiences.

Carlton CEO Greg Swann said the Club was looking forward to another exciting season and was delighted that a minimum of 19 Carlton games will be broadcast on free-to-air television in 2010.

"It is great for our supporters that 19 of our games will be shown on free-to-air television, ten of those being in prime time. This is a positive reflection by the broadcasters on the development of the club in recent years.

“The home game against Geelong at the MCG on the Anzac Day Monday holiday is a stand alone game and should be a great game with a huge crowd and big television audience,” Swann said.

Carlton will travel interstate on five occasions in 2010; to Brisbane in round two and then two trips to both Adelaide and Perth, with the final game in round 22 being played in Perth against Fremantle. The date and time of all round 22 matches is to be announced later in the year.

“The five interstate matches are spread throughout the season and they are certainly balanced out with eight matches in a row in Melbourne during the middle of the season, seven of these being home games,” added Swann.

The teams Carlton will play once in 2010 are Adelaide, Hawthorn, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide, St Kilda, Sydney and Western Bulldogs.
