THE SITUATION looked bleak for Carlton during the third quarter of Sunday’s clash with the Bulldogs, but Shaun Grigg maintains he and his teammates remained confident despite falling 37 points behind at one stage.

“We knew if we could get within striking distance by three-quarter time that we’d be a massive chance because of our last quarters and we did end up running over the top,” Grigg said after the Blues kicked the last nine goals of the match to post their eighth win of the season.

“We started to own the corridor and backed our forwards and we knew our fitness would be a factor.

“We believe we can beat anyone on our day and all the coaches back us 100 per cent against any opposition and we’ve got complete faith in them as well with the game plan.”

The game was something of a rarity in modern football with very few hard tags around the ground which skipper Chris Judd made the most of with 32 damaging possessions in his 150th AFL match.

“I’m not sure why they didn’t tag Juddy,” Grigg said.

“I suppose they probably wish they did now, but we back our midfield in every week to get the job done.”

Grigg was delighted for both Judd and Simon Wiggins, who played his 100th match, with both players outstanding in their milestone games.

The 20-year-old has a long way to go before he can contemplate reaching those levels, but he’s happy with the way things are progressing.

“I just wanted to cement a spot in the team at the start of the year,” he said.

“I’ve played 16 games now so I’m starting to feel at home in the line-up and hopefully I can just continue improving.”
