The Carlton Football Club is pleased to announce exciting midfielder Mitch Robinson has re-signed with the Blues for a further two years.

“This is really positive news for the Club on the eve of the 2012 season and we are delighted that Mitch has agreed to continue his career with Carlton for a further two years, through until the end of the 2014 season,” said General Manager Football Operations, Andrew McKay.

“Mitch is highly regarded by everyone at the club and I know the supporters love the way he plays the game. The fact he finished seventh in last year’s Best & Fairest is an indication of his importance to our team,” McKay added.

Robinson joined Carlton via the 2008 NAB National Draft as a third round selection, number 40 overall.

From Tasmania, Robinson played for Lauderdale before spending a year with West Adelaide in the SANFL and then returning to the Tassie Mariners prior to being drafted by Carlton.

He made his debut against Richmond at the MCG in round one, 2009 and is set to play his 50th AFL game in Carlton’s season opener at the same venue against the same opponent tomorrow night.

“I am thrilled to know I will be part of the Carlton Football Club at least until the end of 2014, I really want to be a one club player,” Robinson said after training at Visy Park today.

“I remember coming across from Tasmania to join Carlton and just wanted to get my first game and take it from there. I am really looking forward to tomorrow night’s game against Richmond  as it is an important milestone for me.

“With the new contract I hope I am able to play more than 100 games and get my name on the number 12 locker at Carlton, alongside former players like Adrian Gleeson and Matthew Lappin.”
