Carlton's VFL affiliate, the Northern Bullants, finished off their home and away season on a high note on Sunday with an 84-point win over Frankston at Frankston Park.

The result sees the Bullants jump to third position on the ladder, and pick up an ever-important second chance in the finals.

The Bullants will now play Williamstown in a qualifying final this Sunday at Burbank Oval.

Coach David Teague talks about how some of the Carlton-listed players performed in his side's final home and away game for the year.

IT WAS a good game. They were tough conditions down there, and Frankston at home is a lot stronger team than it is away. Frankston was also playing for a fair bit, being its last game of the year.

We were pretty happy to come away with the win. The boys played really well together, which gave us a good couple of wins leading into the final.

It was pleasing to slip into third position on the ladder as well. We knew if we won, we'd get a double chance, so we really wanted to put ourselves in a position to do that.

Cameron Cloke came in and played well up forward. He had limited game time, as did Eddie Betts and Jeff Garlett, but they all came back with a great attitude and played really well.

Eddie was very lively and dangerous for two goals in half a game of footy. He played really well, and all three of them could have easily been upset with being dropped, but they came back with a good attitude and got around the other players and got to know the guys really well.

They also all played solid football, which gives them a chance of selection this week.

Our onballers were very good in Shaun Grigg, Adam Bentick and David Ellard. Bentick was our leading possession winner, but we had seven players have over 30 possessions, so it was very even.

Adam Hartlett even had 31 touches at centre half-back, which was a really good effort.

Our ruckmen had about 40 possessions between the two of them, and they hit the ball down to the rovers, who played really well.

Both of them played well – they dominated the ruck and it was great to see. Robbie Warnock kicked two goals and had over 20 possessions, so he's starting to get used more and is moving around really well.

It was a tough day for forwards, particularly early with the breezy conditions but Brad Fisher played a really important role for us in the third quarter when he played behind the ball and floated down into the forward line.

His age and knowledge came to the fore, and he played a really good team role while kicking a couple of goals as well.

There's a really good feeling around the club at the moment, since both teams are in the finals. When the Carlton boys come back to the Bullants, there's a spirit and enthusiasm down there that breeds good football.

When you're having fun, you generally play well and that's what is happening at the moment.

We've got Williamstown this week, and they're obviously a really good side so we'll need to play at our best to get over them.

Playing at Williamstown suits us. It's a small ground and it's probably going to be windy, which are the conditions we've played in for six weeks.

In terms of the venue, we're pretty happy with it.

We got no injuries and this week we'll get back Jordan Bannister from a hamstring. Darren Pfeiffer and Greg Bentley played in the reserves on the weekend because of the 12-10 rule, and they both played really well, so I've got a few to pick from.
