Blues add to the Coaching Panel for 2011

The Carlton Football Club is pleased to confirm the appointment of John Barker as an assistant coach with the Club.

Barker joins Carlton after four years as an AFL assistant coach. He was assistant coach at St Kilda under Ross Lyon in 2007 and 2008 and has been assistant coach, managing the forwards, at Hawthorn under Alastair Clarkson for the last two seasons. He joined the coaching panel at St Kilda in 2007 after playing a total of 168 AFL games; commencing at Fitzroy then Brisbane before playing 113 games with Hawthorn between 1998 and 2006.

“We welcome John to the Carlton Football Club and look forward to his valuable input going forward. He has been involved as an assistant coach at two successful clubs since he retired from playing and we believe he will bring further positive ideas to Carlton,” said General Manager Football Operations, Steven Icke.

“John’s appointment confirms our senior coaching panel for 2011. John, Mark Riley and Gavin Brown will be the assistant coaches in the role of line-coaches working with senior assistant coach Alan Richardson and senior coach Brett Ratten. Darren Harris will continue in the important role of Development and Academy Manager in 2011.

“David Teague’s decision to move to West Coast means we will now work with our VFL affiliate club, the Northern Bullants, to find the best replacement to take over the role of VFL senior coach and Carlton development coach,” Icke added.
