The Carlton Football Club is calling on its rank and file supporters to help build its already extensive footy card collection.
The club has enlisted the services of card collector and avowed Blues supporter Damien Green to assist with the cause. Green has agreed to act as first port of call for any supporters who can supply the following Carlton cards (see below) for inclusion in the club’s collection.
Green recently viewed the existing collection, which was previously assessed by collector Ric Milne for the then Carlton CEO Ian Collins in the early 1990s.
“I was quite surprised by how good the collection. It was huge, in quite good condition, and contains quite a number of the harder-to-get cards,” Green said.
“The collection isn’t far off completion. It seems to have ended in 1995 and needs updating from hereon in, so we’re looking for those common cards that just might be sitting at home. And I’ve no doubt that there are enough like-minded Carlton collectors to help.”
Green has steadily accumulated his own collection of footy cards of all teams since 1974. He began with a handful of cards tucked safely away in a shoebox, and has since amassed a total of 35,000 cards and counting.
Now he wants to hear from all Carlton supporters who can help build the Carlton collection, providing the cards meet the following criteria.
“They need to be in pristine condition, with no creases, no tears and nice sharp corners . . . it’s as you’d expect them straight out of the packet.
