Carlton captain Chris Judd was delighted with the sides come from the clouds victory against Port Adelaide on the weekend and admitted he didn’t go into the final break thinking about the win.

“I wouldn’t say I went into the three-quarter time huddle expecting to come away with a win but we were wrapped to do so. (At three-quarter time) We were focused on what we were doing concentrating on moving the ball on a bit quicker and not to finesse too much.”

“It was a huge win, apart from winning a final that is about as good as it gets. To kick three goals in the first three quarters and then seven in the last quarter, against a quality side playing at home who had a lot to play for.”

What Judd didn’t realise that it was the equal greatest comeback from a three-quarter-time deficit ever by Carlton. Sunday’s victory from 30-points down at the last change equalled the comebacks in round 15, 1942 (against Fitzroy at the Brunswick St. Oval) and in round 4, 1944 (against Essendon at Princes Park).

Judd said the victory was a great effort and continued the development of the team, particularly the young players. However he was quick to point out that part of the development of the team is enjoying a great win and then the ability to focus on the next challenge.

“It is just one game, a super win but we need to keep it in perspective and it is just one game. We need to win consecutive games and we really need to do that to keep our season alive.”

He said after such a victory the team could take one of two paths.

“The win can either give you confidence going into this week to be able to fight back no matter what situation we are in. Of it can make you think the pressure is off, we’ve had a win, we are five and six and take your foot off the pedal. It can go either way and it is important we focus on this week against probably the form side in the competition and come out and put up a good show.”
