THE BLUES got just the start they were after against the Kangaroos on Sunday, but ruckman-forward Cameron Cloke admits he and his teammates weren't at all happy with what followed.

"It's very disappointing, I mean we focused on the start because they're very good there, and it was good that we were able to match them, but then the plan didn't continue the way we wanted it," Cloke said after Carlton was defeated by 51 points at Telstra Dome.

"It was a shame we couldn't go on with it, it was probably one of worst games of the year in the end; it was one of the highest losing margins which was very disappointing.

"I think they just wanted the ball more than us in that second quarter. They got in first and got the ball out and any team that wants the ball more than you is going to make it count on the scoreboard."

Cloke finished the match with 12 possessions, eight hitouts and two goals and felt having Matthew Kreuzer and Shaun Hampson in the same side was a definite advantage.

"It's always good to get a couple of goals, I played up forward a fair bit with the three of us ruckman in and it was good to get the chance to get a bit more experience up there," he said.

"I think it's worked pretty well having the three big blokes in because you get a bit more rest so you can go out and work harder."

The Blues must now win both their remaining games against Brisbane Lions and Hawthorn handsomely and hope that St Kilda, the Lions and Richmond don't win another match if they are to squeeze into the finals.

However, Cloke said the focus would remain on improving as a group.

"We definitely want to have a good finish to the season and we've got to set up a little bit for next year as well," he said.

"We've got a couple of really big games coming up, starting next Saturday night up at the Gabba, and we'll really want to get ourselves in good shape for next year and beyond."
