CARLTON ruckman Matthew Kreuzer is expected to play in Sunday's elimination final against Essendon at the MCG after having treatment to resolve his foot problem.

Kreuzer's foot went numb during the Blues' game against St Kilda on Saturday night, and he had to be subbed out in the second quarter.

Scans on Sunday showed he had a cyst on an artery, which was blocking blood supply to his foot.

Thankfully for the 22-year-old and his team, doctors were able to successfully treat the problem.

"By all reports, the scans and everything were pretty positive, so I think he's going to train this week," Blues midfielder Bryce Gibbs said at Visy Park on Monday.

"It's all good."

Kreuzer was sidelined for the early part of this season as he recovered from a serious knee injury he suffered last year.

But since returning to the Carlton side he has been an impressive contributor and his teammates are delighted the cyst could be treated.

"With all the [bad] luck he's had over the last 12 months, it's good for him to get some positive news like that," Gibbs said.

Carlton has lost elimination finals in the past two seasons. It was beaten by the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba in 2009 and went down to the Sydney Swans at ANZ Stadium last year.

"It definitely sits in the back of your mind," Gibbs said of the losses.

"A couple of years ago in Brisbane we had an opportunity to win that game, and again last year in Sydney we had our chances.

"We've learned from those mistakes and hopefully this year we'll go one better."

The Blues haven't won a finals match since they beat Adelaide in 2001.

As a result, the players are under immense pressure to finally break the drought but Gibbs is trying his best to enjoy the build-up to the weekend.

"It's more just excitement that the finals are here again," Gibbs said.

"We haven't had a home final for quite some time now, and we're really excited to get out in front of our fans here in Melbourne and hopefully put on a good show.

"What better way to do that than take on your arch-rivals Essendon, and no doubt there'll be a fair crowd there."
