Carlton’s new players, selected in the National Draft last weekend have wasted no time in settling in at the Club. All three were at training on Monday and Tuesday at Visy Park before heading to a camp at Sorrento on Tuesday afternoon with the rest of their new team-mates.

All three are naturally delighted to be at Carlton and are looking forward to the 2010 season. Not surprisingly all admitted to being a little nervous when they had their first run on Visy Park with the Carlton team on Monday morning but said it didn’t take long to realise this was their new home and Chris Judd and company were actually their team-mates.

As for the Carlton hierarchy the delight at the three being available to pick at the Club’s selections at the National Draft has grown since the players have arrived at the Club. As well as showing the skills that made them the best available for each of Carlton’s selections, all three have proven to be quality young men who will represent Carlton well on and off the field.

“When the selections are made at the Draft for most people they are names so it is always good to meet the new players and have an understanding of the type of person they are. We know they can play football as each was rated the best player available in the Draft at our selection and that is our criteria when recruiting young players,” said Carlton CEO Greg Swann.

Swann said the new facilities at Visy Park that will be used from early next year will add to the development program at Carlton and will ensure the new recruits, and indeed every player, has the best possible environment to ensure they develop and perform to the very best of their ability.

In regards to suggestions that the Blues should have recruited some taller key position players, Swann was adamant Carlton had made the correct decisions and looks forward to Lucas, Davies and Kerr vindicating their selections in the coming years.

“The suggestion in today’s paper that Wayne Hughes (Carlton Recruiting Manager) had to explain the selection to the Board following the Draft is completely false. Wayne explained to the Board at a meeting prior to the Draft the process and the players we were looking at selecting and everyone was pleased with the decisions.

“We have been very selective in our recruiting in recent years and we draft the best available player. We have already added Lachie Henderson to our list for 2010 and we are confident he will be a key position player for Carlton for many years. With the return of two other key position players from injury; Jarrad Waite and Michael Jamison as well as Robbie Warnock retuning from an injury interrupted first season at Carlton, our tall stocks are in good order,” Swann added.

The Blues training camp will finish on Friday with a skills training session at Frankston Oval, commencing at 11.30am.
