Draft summary
"We took the best player available at each of our selections and we stuck to that policy right throughout the draft. We spent a lot of time getting the players into the pecking order that we believed was correct. If you can add good football players to your club then that's all you need.
"Everyone thought they might miss something, so they read that first-round pick out quick to make sure they got it right. It was funny how quick it went. But I think we all got a bit of a feel for what everyone might do so it just worked out that way.
"I think everyone will be happy with the way it panned out; it's just a bit of a relief that it's over."
Selection No. 6: Chris Yarran
Swan Districts, WA, Medium forward, December 19, 1990, 180cm, 84kg
"You could make a case for a lot of players in this draft to be the No. 1 player picked today and Chris would be in that category. I've been watching him for three years now; he's a very dangerous forward, but we think he'll turn into a midfielder.
"He's had a few injuries but when he's really fit he looks to be a quick inside midfielder who uses the ball beautifully. In his league year this year, as an under-18 player, he had 70 shots on goal so he adds to our forward line and might contribute to us scoring more."
Selection No. 40: Mitch Robinson
Tassie Mariners, TAS, Medium midfielder, June 7, 1989, 188cm, 77kg
"Robinson is an All-Australian midfielder from Tasmania who won the Harrison Medal [for best and fairest in division two at the championships]. He's quick, hard, tough, uses the ball well and will add a lot of run to our midfield.
"It seemed to take a long time for our second pick after the first round was so rushed, but it worked out okay. Everyone always says they're surprised when a player is still there at a certain pick, but I think we genuinely were surprised [when he was there at 40].
Selection No. 65: Rhys O'Keefe
North Adelaide, SA, Medium defender, July 8, 1990, 187cm, 80kg
"Rhys O'Keefe was terrific at the championships as a half-back flanker and played on the ball in the last couple of games. He's a beautiful kick, an exceptionally good kick, so the coach will be happy … he might get off our back for a little while."
Selection No. 80: Caleb Tiller
Murray Bushrangers, VIC, Medium forward, February 6, 1991, 187cm, 77kg
"Tiller is a 17-year-old key position player from the Murray Bushrangers. We think he can play forward or back, but we'll give him plenty of time because he's only a 17-year-old; he's one for the future."
