Courageous midfielder Marc Murphy was back at Visy Park today, just three days after undergoing surgery on his injured left shoulder.

An arthroscopy showed that Carlton’s reigning best and fairest winner had a fracture in a bone in his shoulder, after a big collision in the second quarter of Carlton’s loss to the Adelaide Crows at Etihad Stadium last Sunday.

Murphy came into the club to see the medical team about the injury and such is his commitment and determination, he also took the opportunity to speak with the fitness staff about his rehabilitation and fitness programs that will commence when he has the all clear from the medical staff.

Speaking exclusively to CFC TV today, Marc said he was obviously disappointed with the prognosis.

“On Monday morning when I went into get scans I was pretty hopeful that I would only be out for about four weeks, but as the day went on the news just kept getting worse and worse,” he said.

“I will be in the sling for the next four weeks then will get back out on the track and rebuild my strength and fitness as soon as possible.

“Obviously there is not much I can do at the moment, I even need someone to drive me around as I cannot drive with just the one arm, so it is a matter of resting up and waiting until I can get back into some work.”

While the visit to Carlton was essentially to see the medical team and catch up with team-mates and coaches, Murphy took the time to enjoy a coffee in the Carlton Café. He was joined by Bryce Gibbs and Andrew Carrazzo before spending time with Will Tomlinson who recently defended his World Super Featherweight championship.

Will has forged a relationship with Carlton through his work with Carlton’s Elite Performance Unit and had a boxing session with Murphy in the boxing ring at Visy Park just prior to his last fight.

“It is great to catch up with the boys and a bonus to see Wild Will here today, it gave me a good excuse to have another coffee,” Murphy laughed.

He may be out injured but it was great to see he still has is sense of humour.
