Defender Michael Jamison believes the Carlton backline will give the match committee a few headaches in 2012, with a number of players fit and fighting for limited spots.

Speaking exclusively to CFC TV at Visy Park today, Michael said the depth of Blues defence this season meant exciting times ahead.

“It is the first time in a number of years that there is real competition for spots in the backline,” he said.

“Guys that were in and out of the team last year will be wanting to play every game, so there will be about 10 guys fighting for six spots.”

After starting the 2011 season in All-Australian form, Michael succumbed to an unfortunate knee injury in Round 14 last year.

He returned to the Blues line-up late in the season, but was inconvenienced by his knee and had post-season arthroscopic surgery.

“It was frustrating to come back from the knee because it was pretty unpredictable and I was up and down each week,” he said.

“It was hard to judge when I would be right, but the motivation to get back out there came from boys doing so well and knowing that we should get some success in the finals.”

After sitting out the Club’s pre-season high performance training camp last year in the Middle East, Michael returned to pre-season training in November.

“I am feeling really refreshed and should play most, if not all of the NAB Cup and will be ready for Round one,” he said.
