CARLTON will attempt to stretch Geelong's undermanned defence this week with a trio of forwards expected to come into selection consideration.
Cameron Cloke, Simon Wiggins and Brad Fisher all trained with the main group at Visy Park on Thursday morning, with Cloke's recent VFL form producing 17 goals from five games.
Assistant coach Matthew Lappin said plans to exploit the absence of Cats backmen Matthew Scarlett and Harry Taylor would encourage discussions for more firepower.
"We hope we can put enough dangerous people down there to make those players play accountable football," Lappin said.
"Hopefully Brendan (Fevola) will get more one-on-ones or Setanta O'hAilpin will get more one-on-ones. If they decide to drop off those blokes, hopefully we can use them and make Geelong defend by getting those blokes to hit the scoreboard.
"There are a few blokes that will come into consideration. [Cloke and Wiggins] are two that will – we'll have to wait and see after we get through training."
Lappin said the Blues weren't sure who Mark Thompson would assign to Fevola, but were expecting their spearhead to face a variety of opponents.
"It's a good question. They've got plenty of options. I saw Bomber throw up Joel Corey the other day as a possible person who could pick up Brendan," he said.
"Andrew Mackie could play there, Darren Milburn, Tom Harley. When you play against Brendan at the moment, it's not just the one guy that lines up on him.
"Particularly with the Cats, because their defenders roll off so well, they'll look to have two or three guys on him at different times to assist whoever does play on him."
Bret Thornton will be named on Thursday night and is expected to play after overcoming a sore shoulder.
Lappin also said Michael Jamison, who is struggling with a groin injury, would need to get through training to push for selection.
The defender, a late withdrawal for the last three weeks, completed only static drills during the session, while Chris Johnson ran laps as he works through his recovery from a hamstring injury.
The Cats will also be missing Paul Chapman and James Kelly, however, Lappin says the Blues won't enter Friday night's clash with any complacency knowing a young side can be even more dangerous than an experienced one.
"Geelong has hit a couple of hurdles with injuries, which I suppose every side gets at some point," he said.
"You can still see they've dealt with that really well, and they're still at second spot on the ladder and playing really good footy.
"They're testing [themselves], and finding out more about their some of their players on their list they haven't been able to look at over the last year or so.
"Imagine how hungry those guys will be to stay in the side. They're going to have five or six guys in their side playing for finals spots.
"We're pretty sure they'll be coming out at 100 miles an hour."
