I think we (all Carlton supporters) are ready for a break. The year started with a winless pre-season and the experts prediction of gloom and doom for the Blues in 2012. Lack of preparation for a number of players and poor form during the pre-season was soon forgotten with the Blues first round victory against Richmond. This good form continued for the first three rounds.

After such a great start to the season we were all excited about the year ahead and this was not just about early results but the style of play. Carlton was exciting to watch with a fast, aggressive and accountable brand of football.

Then things started to go wrong: injuries, loss of form and then loss of confidence led to poor results and a really tough few weeks. The low point was round ten, not just the loss but the manner in which we played - it was such a long way from the early season form and excitement. Questions were being asked about the players, the coaches and pretty much every aspect of the Club. That's what happens when things turn sour in the AFL, the whole Club and everyone involved is put under the microscope.

The round ten match was a "line in the sand" moment for supporters, there had to be a show of strength and resolve to overcome the setbacks. To the credit of the playing group and coaching staff round ten was exactly that, the performance that demanded, and resulted, in positive change.

The next two performances were more in keeping with the Carlton we expect to see, particularly after witnessing the first three rounds. The attitude, the attack on the ball, the support for one another and the enthusiasm created confidence and run and a real desire to win the contests.

Unfortunately, the results have not been what we wanted. Two very honorable losses, but in the end another two games in which we have not been able to get any premiership points when we certainly had our chances.

Both games were always going to be tough; the reigning premier Geelong at Etihad Stadium followed by the top of the ladder West Coast in Perth, where they had won 16 games straight. It is possible that we would have defeated most teams in both games but the fact is we could have won both and didn't.

More disappointment but a step in the right direction. But as supporters we want wins not honorable losses. Adding to the positives in the last couple of games, however, is the return of some players from injury and the anticipation of more set to return after the bye.

It as been a roller coaster ride for Carlton supporters in 2012 and like Chris Judd, Kade Simpson, Matthew Kreuzer and a number of other players, we deserve a weekend off. One non-football weekend to recharge the batteries and get ready for a big assault on the last ten games of the home and away season.

Like you I am looking forward to it but probably not as much as the players and coaches.

Bring on round 14 when we are all refreshed and ready to start over, in the same style we started the season, on and off the field.
