SAM Philp will become Carlton player No.1213 when he makes his debut against arch enemy Essendon.
The 2020 draftee has been rewarded for standout reserves form in recent weeks, coming into the side for the injured Harry McKay.
Philp - who kicked two goals against Geelong’s reserves last week - has averaged seven tackles in the past fortnight and is expected to play a role in the midfield and up forward.
Pace and pressure are the hallmarks of Philp’s game, who recorded the fastest sprint time at the NAB AFL Draft Combine last year.
As one Navy Blue career begins, another ticks off another impressive milestone, with Simpson to take the outright third spot for Carlton games played.
McKay will miss Saturday night’s clash with bruised ribs. McKay underwent a fitness test on Thursday before a decision was made this afternoon to sideline him for the weekend’s game.
Tom De Koning, Josh Honey, Matthew Kennedy and Lochie O’Brien have been named as emergencies.
Saturday night’s game will coincide with the first Back our ‘Baggers game, thanks to co-major partner Hyundai.
The game will see a Carlton member’s name feature the back of each player’s respective jumper: each name is below.
