OVERVIEW

Chris Yarran successfully put a mid-year slump behind him and had a strong finish to Season 2013, which was statistically one of his best. Shifted into a new role in the forward line after a spending the last few years in defence, ‘Yazz’ recorded career high numbers in goals kicked (26) and tackles laid (76).

With the departure of Eddie Betts to Adelaide, Carlton fans will be hoping Yarran can again step up his scoring output and form a potent forward line combination with fellow livewire Jeff Garlett in 2014.

HE SAID IT

“It was probably the best win I’ve been involved with at this footy club. To be 39 points down with a few minutes to go in the third quarter and to somehow manage to win that game was an incredible effort, and I couldn’t be more proud of the blokes who ran out on that day.

“At the end of the day, everyone wanted to play finals. That was what was going through my mind and I’m pretty sure it was going through everybody else’s.” – Chris Yarran on Carlton’s remarkable come-from-behind win over Port Adelaide in Round 23.

SEASON HIGHLIGHT

Yarran was the catalyst for the Blues’ first win of the season against West Coast in Round 4. Setting Subiaco alight, the 22-year old broke the game open during the second quarter when he kicked three goals for the term; all of which came from long runs after collecting the ball outside the 50-metre mark. Yarran finished the match with four majors – his biggest haul in 84 AFL games.
