The number 13 may be unlucky for some, but the Blues will be hoping it can deliver them some exciting new talent when the AFL’s National Draft is held on the Gold Coast this week.

Carlton has seven draft picks, but is only likely to exercise three, being selections 13, 39 and 51.

Recruiters have described this year’s draft as an “even” one, and it’s still unclear which player Carlton will select with its top draft pick.

So for now, we thought we’d take a look back in time, to see which players have enjoyed success after being selected at No.13 in the draft.

As you will see there are some big names among the list, including Hawks great Shane Crawford, Western Bulldog Robert Murphy, former Saint now Roo Nick Dal Santo, and Carlton’s very own Andrew McKay, who went on to play 244 games in the navy blue and captain the club.
