It's as easy as ABC – that is: airways, breathing and CPR.
The Carlton Football Club doesn't take the health and safety of its players lying down. But some players spent time lying down this week – as they took part in a first aid course.
During the course the players learnt techniques to keep a person breathing, reduce their pain and minimise injury until an ambulance arrives.
They're vital skills which could ultimately mean the difference between life and death.
Carlton's Player Development Manager James Golds says the first aid sessions are part of the induction program for first year players.
"The players are involved in a range of sessions aimed at ensuring they have an appropriate range of skills to cope with the demands of being an AFL footballer."
