IT WILL be business as usual at Ikon Park this week, according to Senior Coach David Teague and Head of Football Brad Lloyd.
As soon as Carlton triumphed by two points at Kardinia Park against Geelong, discussion turned to Round 4 — in particular, whether or not Carlton’s clash with Essendon would go ahead.
Speaking to SEN on Monday morning, Teague said the expectation was that the Blues would be in action at the MCG on Saturday night.
He said the playing group would attack their training in preparation for a clash with the arch rival this weekend.
“The AFL has put these protocols in place: as a coach logistically, it’s been a little bit annoying but it’s been for this situation so the game can continue,” Teague said.
“We’ll be guided by the AFL and we’ll prepare to play… that’s what we’ll focus on, what we can control.”
Lloyd echoed Teague’s sentiments, saying the Club would be guided on the back of communication by the AFL.
He said he was expecting the game to go ahead as planned, provided it was safe for both groups of players and staff.
“We’ll have some meetings today… we’ll get a fair update,” Lloyd said on RSN.
“We’ve prepared for this as an industry. We’ve talk about whether we’ll go back to full games: these 16-minute quarters and training in groups of eight has been in preparation for if these moments happen.
“I feel the game should be going ahead. That’s why these systems have been set up.”
