ON FRIDAY, David Teague said he was looking for a circuit-breaker.

On Saturday night, he well and truly got that, in the form of a first Carlton win at Kardinia Park since 1996.

The Blues were at their ruthless best in the opening three quarters, kicking out to a 42-point lead.

In a role reversal of last week, it was Carlton’s turn to hang on, emerging from the Cattery with a two-point win to give their 2020 season life.

Speaking post-match, Teague said the win marked reward for effort for a playing group which he has constantly praised for their work rate.

“What I really hope is they start to believe. Belief is a powerful thing,” Teague said post-match.

“When we really believe that we can go out there and play the way we did for three quarters today, that’s the expectation. That’s what they demand of each other.

“I really believe in this playing group.”

Teague said the frustration of Round 2 was born purely out of the result, given the process and preparation had been exactly what the Blues were after.

In his pre-match press conference, Teague said he believed it would be a case of the Blues needing to experience a strong start for belief to grow.

That prediction rung true on Saturday night, with Carlton coming away with the four points.

“I can see Geelong sitting there going ‘we probably threw it away’ — we were there last week,” he said.

“We’ve set a standard that we know we can do it now, we need to do it more often.

“Our group, particularly for the first three quarters, get a lot of confidence out of the game.”
