An eight-man leadership group will head the Blues in 2014, as Carlton embarks on its historic 150th year.
Marc Murphy will captain the side for a second season, with Andrew Carrazzo and Kade Simpson as his vice-captains. Defender Michael Jamison will assume the role of deputy vice-captain.
Coming into the group along with Jamison are Bryce Gibbs, Lachie Henderson, Brock McLean and Andrew Walker.
Carlton’s GM-Football Operations Andrew McKay says the new leadership group has a great balance of youth and experience.
“Marc has grown both on and off the field in his first year at the helm and is really starting to put his stamp on the captaincy,” McKay said.
“We have the experienced leadership of Simpson and Carrazzo, together with Brock McLean who is a strong voice both on and off the field.
“After 12 months out of the leadership group, Bryce Gibbs and Michael Jamison return, which is great to see because they’re two very important and respected figures within the playing group.
“We’re also pleased to see Andrew Walker and Lachie Henderson step up – both of them have come off a terrific season in 2013, finishing second and third respectively in the best and fairest.”
Meanwhile McKay says veteran Jarrad Waite has elected not to be in the leadership group this year.
“Just like Michael and Bryce did 12 months ago, Jarrad wanted to focus on getting his body right, which in turn created an opportunity for the Club’s emerging leaders,” McKay said.
“He is a terrific leader and will continue to remain one, just not in an official capacity.”
