Carlton and Collingwood joined forces for a good cause today, at the annual Peter Mac Breakfast.

The two sides will go head-to-head for the Peter Mac Cup on Sunday night at the MCG, to raise awareness and funds for Melbourne’s Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

The Peter Mac Cup is the longest running charity match in VFL/AFL history. The match has raised more than $1 million since its inception in 1993.

This year’s Cup will focus on raising awareness of paediatric cancers.

About 150 Victorian children are diagnosed with cancer each year and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is the sole provider of radiation therapy for sick kids.

Childhood cancer often occurs in different parts of the body to cancers in adults. Cancers in children also look different under the microscope and respond differently to treatment.

Carlton coach Mick Malthouse and captain Marc Murphy joined Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley and captain Scott Pendlebury today in delivering a key message: that by raising funds for cancer research at Peter Mac, we all help give every person with cancer the best chance of survival.
