Former Carlton captain Lance Whitnall joined the Blues in celebrating Friday night’s win over the Kangaroos at Etihad Stadium.
Whitnall visited the rooms post-match, where there was a presentation to Mitch Robinson, Chris Yarran and Lachie Henderson, who all notched up their 100th AFL games.
Speaking with carltonfc.com.au, Whitnall said he believes it’s important for past players to show their support where they can.
“I remember when I was playing, every time you see a past player in the rooms it was a great feeling – it gives you a bit of a lift,” Whitnall said.
The 34-year-old, who retired in 2007, ran out 216 times in the navy blue jumper, earning All-Australian selection in 2000 and the John Nicholls Medal in 2006.
He said nowadays he gets to as many games as he can, and is optimistic about Carlton's future.
“The Club’s certainly heading in the right direction that’s for sure,” Whitnall said.
“It’s a funny game football; last week everyone was down, but everyone’s up this week. It turns around very quickly – it’s amazing what a week in football does.”
