Carlton captain Marc Murphy concedes discipline let his team down in Saturday's seven point loss to Brisbane at the Gabba.

The Lions won 14.14 (98) to the Blues 13.13. (91) on a slippery Gabba surface, after a shower of rain hit shortly before the game got underway.

A visibly shattered Murphy said it was extremely disappointing that his team squandered 16 point lead in the final term.

But he said the conditions were not to blame.

"It's the same for them," Murphy said.

"They probably handled it better and they were first to the football as well, so I think their physical numbers and their attack on the ball was probably hurting us in that first quarter.

"The conditions weren't really the factor, probably just more the attitude and the intensity of the game."

Murphy led the way for the Blues finishing with 38 disposals and a goal, while Sam Docherty found plenty of the football in his first game against his old team, finishing with one goal and 30 touches.

The loss leaves Carlton with a ledger of 4-6. The Blues next face Geelong at Etihad Stadium on Friday night.
