Da da da da daaaaa!
So, after the media cleared every Bunnings of every blowtorch to turn on our beloved Blues, we finally have something to sing about. Yes, it took four weeks to get there, but it was worth the wait, wasn’t it? I mean, I don’t want a one in four strike rate ever again, but like a farmer who is watching it rain (goals), it was awesome to finally break the drought.
And it started from the top. Seriously, how good was Marc Murphy? Clearly he must’ve watched and read everything said about him in the last week; or at the very least watched and read the research paper and DVD I sent him of everything said about him in the last week. Either way, it doesn’t matter; he stood tall (well, as tall as he can) and did what captains do – lead from the front and get the job done.
Plus, our forward line actually works. Like, seven goals a quarter working. Who knew? After the Melbourne game I never thought I’d ever see that again in my lifetime (in fact, I never thought I’d see seven goals in a match), but there it was, just one week later. People took marks up there. Actual contested marks! And then – and I know you won’t believe this unless you saw it with your own eyes – converted those marks into goals. GOALS! And not behinds that lead to infuriatingly, membership-cutting-up, close losses.
It was fun to watch. We played on lots. We kept it moving. We ran down the corridor like mum wasn’t home. We were exciting, and the best thing was we were in front all day, which meant we could actually enjoy it and not have to be concerned about what we were going to say when we got through on SEN after the game.
And we did it without the great man, Juddy. It’s a shame he went down after six minutes, but let’s look at the positives – what a six minutes! He was a ball magnet, and will probably go down as the greatest sub of all time. And by the time he comes back later in the season he’s going to be super fresh.
So Daisy, Crippsy and Andrejs got to enjoy their first win as Blues, and we got to revel in our first win of the season. And it’s a nice feeling to want to talk about footy again. For the first time this season I’ve wanted to read every paper, listen to talkback, and wish they’d shown more highlights instead of cutting to the Royal Tour every six seconds. What’s that? Prince George had a nappy change? Great.
So hopefully we can back it up with a win against the Eagles this weekend.
But now I’m off to get revenge on the behind post that broke Ed Curnow’s leg. Nothing does that to a Bluebagger and gets away with it.
