The rains may have fallen on old Carlton town, but they failed to dampen the spirits of the Carlton and Collingwood former players who manfully battled it out in the “Clash of the Old Foes” at Visy Park.

Before an anticipated audience of 1000, former greats of the game soldiered on in what was a typically willing contest throughout.

Old combatants David McKay and Des Tuddenham featured at the toss of the going; with Vin Catoggio assigned duties as the Blues’ fleet of foot runner, but it was left to the likes of Aitken, Christou Dean, De Iulio, Fisher, Gleeson, Johnston, Manton, Marcou, Rice and White to fly the dark Navy Blue flag.

Try as they might, Collingwood’s opposing players , who included Ian Cooper, Damian Monkhorst, Shane Morwood and Simon Prestigiacomo, together with Paul Williams and Leigh Brown amongst the better peformers, ensured a largely unpopular 20-point victory – 9.15 (69) to 7.7(49).

The real winners, however, were the Peter McCallum Cancer Foundation and the EJ Whitten Foundation for Prostate Cancer Awareness, for which funds from the match are to be donated.
