OVERVIEW
Season 2014 was a roller coaster for Kane Lucas. The 23-year-old only managed a total of seven senior appearances for the Blues this year, compared to 17 games in 2013.
However, during the matches he did play he made a solid contribution, particularly in the Round 4 clash with Melbourne where he notched up 20 disposals and took eight marks. Lucas also contributed to Carlton’s goal tally in the Blues' Round 23 draw with Essendon.
Meanwhile in the VFL, Lucas caused a stir in rounds 15 and 16 when he accumulated a combined total of 53 possessions and 21 marks for the Northern Blues.
’Sugar' finished the year on a high after he was chosen to represent Carlton in the the AFL’s 2014 Grand Final Sprint at the MCG.
HE SAID IT
“You can’t be solely focused on yourself and make it all about you just trying to get up to AFL level. Of course that’s the overall goal, but you’ve still got to play to the team's structures and recognise that you’re playing with 21 other guys. You’ve got to play your role.”
- Kane Lucas discussing playing with the Northern Blues in Episode 3 of The Carlton Podcast.
THEY SAID IT
“Lucas could be on the verge of a senior call-up after accumulating 53 possessions and 21 marks in his latest two VFL outings. Lucas will be a key in the chain for transitioning the ball between fifth metre arcs against the Scorpions.”
- Northern Blues’ Kris Neil discussing Lucas in the lead-up to the Northern Blues’ Round 17 match against the Casey Scorpions.
