Zac Tuohy became the first player to make his Carlton debut against Port Adelaide in a winning team. The previous closest had been Callum Chambers and Troy Longmuir who made their Carlton debut in the round 4 draw against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium in 2005. The only other players to make their AFL debut for Carlton against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium are Darren Hulme and Luke Livingston, both in losses.
Prior to Tuohy’s successful debut, seven players had made their Carlton debut against Port Adelaide without enjoying team success. Hulme, Livingston, Hoppner (all AFL debut), Chambers, Longmuir, Damian Lang and Mick Martyn.
Andrew Walker’s six goal performance equaled the best by a Carlton player in a match against Port Adelaide. Walker joins current coach Brett Ratten (6 goals in round 6, 2000) and Brendan Fevola (6 goals in round 2, 2009) as Carlton’s highest goalkicker in a game against Port Adelaide.
Chris Judd joined Craig Bradley as the player to captain Carlton in the most games against Port Adelaide. Judd and Bradley have both led the Blues in five matches against the Power with Judd enjoying a 100% success rate. Dennis Armfield has also played five matches against Port Adelaide for five victories.
Bret Thornton played his 12th game against Port Adelaide on Sunday, the most of any current Carlton player. Lance Whitnall has played the most Carlton games against Port Adelaide (13).
To add to the team success, Sunday was Carlton’s fifth successive victory against Port Adelaide, the longest winning sequence in the 22 matches between the two clubs.
While the final quarter was impressive with the Blues scoring 7-4-46 it was not the best 4th quarter score by Carlton in a game against Port Adelaide. In round 20, 2009 Carlton scored 9-2-56 in a big victory over Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.
