Bryce Gibbs says his contract talks are “going well” and he’s indicated he’s likely to remain at Visy Park.
The 25-year-old has played 164 AFL games since being recruited by the Blues with the number one draft pick in 2006.
There has been intense speculation about his future as a potential free agent, but when it was put to Gibbs on radio FIVEaa, he gave his strongest indication yet that he’ll be staying put.
Presenter Stephen Rowe: “You are going to stay at Carlton aren’t you?”
Gibbs: “Yeah it looks like that, so hopefully we can get it done sooner rather than later.”
Gibbs says he’s unsure if either club from his home state in South Australia have contacted his management, and he says he doesn’t plan to find out until after his contract talks are finalised.
It’s been a standout year so far for Gibbs. His total disposal count for the Blues this season (228) is second only to Kade Simpson (240), while his tackle count (46) is second only to skipper Marc Murphy (53).
The stats have Gibbs ranked third in the team overall for fantasy football, and the Blues midfielder says right now he’s just focusing on keeping up the good form.
“Spending a lot more time in the midfield this year on a consistent basis has been great,” Gibbs said.
“I’ve been helped by Robbie Warnock there as well – some of his ruck work has been really good over the last month and he’s giving us midfielders first use (of the ball), so I am enjoying my footy.”
