Mick thanks members
Mick Malthouse has thanked Carlton’s 47,557 valued members for their support in 2014 and told them exciting times are ahead.
In his weekly message to Carlton members, Malthouse has offered some analysis of the season and insight into his plan moving forward.
“Over the last seven or eight weeks, we’ve played sides that are in or just outside the eight, and the positives have been our commitment to excellence against sides that had a lot more to play for,” Malthouse said.
“I’d like to think we played for you guys – to at least come away with something and say we’re on the right track going forward.
“I think it’d be fair to say in the last part of the year the players have adjusted very well to the game structure. They’ve got the appetite, now we just need a little bit of luck with getting players on the ground, and I think we will have a very solid year.”
In reflecting on Carlton’s Round 23 draw with the Bombers, Malthouse praised the efforts of his men to fight back from a five-goal deficit. But he concedes the result was still disappointing.
From here, the Carlton coach says his work doesn’t stop, as he looks toward the trade and draft periods. The Blues have already made seven changes to the list through retirements and delistings, and more could follow. Malthouse says the recruitment process presents another opportunity to strengthen the playing group.
“We will certainly be striving for the right combination: good people, good citizens, people who understand the game, and have a real appetite for success,” he said.
