It’s been a buzz of negotiations around the trade table already this week with seemingly an unprecedented number of players searching for new homes.
Carlton’s recruiting team is in the thick of it, holding talks with a number of clubs about securing fresh talent.
So far the Blues have been linked to Western Bulldogs Liam Jones and Jason Tutt, but there has been no word on a formal offer for either.
Carlton has also confirmed interest in Giant Kristian Jaksch, while there have been rumours linking the Blues to his teammate Jono O’Rourke as well as out-of-contract Bomber Ben Howlett. Essendon remains hopeful Howlett will re-sign.

On the trade table for Carlton are Mitch Robinson and Jeff Garlett. Adelaide and Essendon are believed to have shown interest in pacey forward Garlett, but West Coast says it’s unlikely to pursue him. While Brisbane is believed to have held talks with Mitch Robinson – there have also been whispers linking him to Hawthorn.

Done deals:
- North Melbourne has signed former Carlton unrestricted free agent Jarrad Waite.
- North Melbourne has signed former Bulldogs restricted free agent Shaun Higgins.
- Hawthorn has signed former Demons unrestricted free agent James Frawley.
- The Gold Coast Suns have signed former Sydney unrestricted free agent Nick Malceski.
Negotiations continuing:
- North Melbourne and Collingwood are in talks on a possible trade for Levi Greenwood. Richmond has also expressed interest in the Kangaroo.
- Collingwood and Brisbane are at loggerheads over a deal for Magpie Dayne Beams. The Pies are asking for the Lions’ first draft pick plus one of their star players.
- Collingwood and Melbourne are in talks to trade Magpie Heritier Lumumba.
- Melbourne and Geelong and working through a deal to trade Demon Mitch Clark.
- Essendon and Port Adelaide are at a stalemate over a trade for Paddy Ryder. The Bombers want one of the Power’s star players in return.
- Gold Coast big man Daniel Gorringe has asked to be traded to Port.
- Sydney’s Tim Membrey has asked to be traded to St Kilda.
Up in the air:
- Giants ruckman Jonathan Giles has asked to be traded but it’s unclear where he will land.
- Bomber Jason Winderlich had retired but has indicated he may want to play on elsewhere with Richmond a frontrunner.
- Geelong’s Travis Varcoe looks to be on the move, but it’s unclear where he will end up – possibly West Coast.
- North Melbourne’s Liam Anthony is said to be on the trade table.
- Giant Jono O’Rourke has asked to be traded back home to Victoria.
