CARLTON has had some success stories emanating from the Apple Isle, with premiership players Peter Jones and Brett Crosswell born in Tasmania.
In the present day, the Blues have two Tasmanians running around in the Navy Blue, and they both share similar journeys.
Levi Casboult and Liam Jones are both originally from Hobart, and their appearance on the Blues Banter podcast - presented by Barkly Smokehouse - presented the perfect opportunity to get their top five Tasmanian players.
The duo shared very similar lists, with the exception of one name at the top of the order.
Both had Alastair Lynch, the Riewoldt cousins and Matthew Richardson in their top five.
“The career he’s had, the Coleman Medals, two premierships and personally playing on him, he’s such a great player. I had to have him in there, I’ve seen him so much,” Jones said on Jack.
“I didn’t forget [Nick] either as a Tassie boy. The way he moved: he could run all day… he could get up the ground, kick goals,” Casboult said on Tasmanian-turned-Queenslander Nick.
While Carlton’s two Tasmanian Hall of Famers didn’t make the list, Jones still included someone he never saw play — on the advice of his family.
His dad, Bob Jones, would even be coached by this man in his 20 games at St Kilda.
“My number one, I haven’t seen him play that much. My nan, my mum always mentioned what a star he was: Darrel Baldock is my number one Tassie player,” Jones said.
Meanwhile, Casboult was more than happy to be a bit biased and add in his weights partner to the number one spot.
“At number one is… Liam Jones,” Casboult said all too seriously.
“I get to watch ‘Jonesy’ pretty well and he’s probably one of the better ones to come out of the state.”
