Setanta O’hAilpin, ambassador for Carlton’s Multicultural Program is encouraging boys to get involved in the trials for the 2010 AFL Multicultural Program Camp to be held in AFL Grand Final Week.

“This is a great opportunity for boys between 14 and 16 to get involved in what is a fantastic program that is not just about football but about helping people feel part of Australian society,” Setanta said this week.

The Carlton area is noted for its cultural diversity and the Carlton Football Club Multicultural Program works with children from multicultural backgrounds in the Carlton area to ease their integration into Australian society. Setanta and Carlton’s International Scholarship player, Peter Labi are the ambassadors for this successful program.

Carlton is one of five clubs involved in the 2010 AFL Multicultural Program Camp to be held in AFL Grand Final Week.

Trials for participation in the camp will be held in late August and early September. Boys turning 14, 15 and 16 years of age in 2010, who are at school and have a multicultural background (newly arrived in Australia or at least one parent born overseas) have the opportunity to attend one or both of these training camps.

•    Saturday August 28 - MacKillop College (Russell Street, Werribee)
•    Saturday September 4 - Warrawee Park (Warrigal Road, Oakleigh)

Both trails commence at 10.30am and finish at 1pm

The Camp represents a fantastic opportunity for all participants to display, test and improve their football skills. Beyond sport, the cultural and social benefits of participating in this camp are many and we encourage boys who are eligible to take up this great opportunity.

80 participants will be selected to participate in the first part of the camp from Monday to Wednesday in Grand Final week with 30 participants then selected to stay Wednesday and Thursday for the high performance component of the camp. All 80 participants in the camp will partake in the AFL Grand Final Parade on Friday September 24.
