The Northern Bullants commence their 2010 Finals campaign this Saturday against Collingwood at TEAC Oval in Port Melbourne.

Which Carlton players are eligible to play for the Bullants is the question many people are asking when it comes to finals. The VFL rules for eligibility to play finals require a player to play a minimum of seven games during the season. Carlton listed players who are eligible to play finals for the Bullants in 2010 under this mandatory seven game rule are:

Joe Anderson, Mark Austin, Steven Browne, Jaryd Cachia, Levi Casboult, Joe Dare, Marcus Davies, David Ellard, Brad Fisher, Shaun Grigg, Richard Hadley, Sam Jacobs, Chris Johnson, Bret Thornton, Zach Tuohy, Rob Warnock and Simon Wiggins.

However, this week, because the game is against another VFL team with an aligned AFL partner and the AFL teams are also playing, there are no restrictions on who plays for the Bullants or indeed for the Collingwood VFL team.

This open selection will only apply for this week for the Bullants. A victory against Collingwood in the Elimination Final will see the Bullants advance to the semi-finals and selection restrictions will apply, unless the Bullants play the Bendigo Bombers and Carlton is also playing on the same weekend. Otherwise the restrictions will be:

• A maximum of 12 AFL listed players may be selected under the VFL Finals rules (except when playing against Collingwood or Bendigo Bombers).

• If Carlton is not playing on the same weekend, to be eligible for selection in the Bullants team, a Carlton listed player must have played the mandatory seven games or more for the Bullants in 2010.

This Saturday against Collingwood all Carlton players not selected to play against Fremantle on Friday night will be in line for selection to play for the Northern Bullants in the Elimination Final against Collingwood at Port Melbourne.
