OVERVIEW
Bryce Gibbs has enjoyed his most consistent season to date in 2014, as one of only three Carlton players to run out for all 22 games.
He topped the Club’s average disposals with 24.77 per game and also laid the most tackles in the team with 108 for the season.
After re-signing with the Blues for an additional five years, Gibbs was the only Carlton player to be nominated for All-Australian selection.
And to top-off his outstanding season, the 25-year-old was awarded his first John Nicholls Medal as Carlton’s Best and Fairest.
HE SAID IT
“I love the club and I was never going anywhere, it was just a question of formalities to get the deal done. There’s been a lot of talk about where we are headed, and I hope by putting pen to paper it demonstrates to my teammates and our members, that I have a strong belief in the future of our club. On a personal level, I intend to repay the faith Carlton has shown in me, and finish my career as a one-club player.”
- Gibbs speaking after signing a new five-year deal, which will keep him at the club until the end of 2019.
THEY SAID IT
“Bryce is a young man who has committed himself to this football club and thrown himself right into the training that’s required for excellence. This season in particular, he has been a very consistent player, a durable player, and he has grown tremendously in his leadership. I know I speak for everyone at Carlton when I say we are delighted for Bryce. This achievement shows he is now reaping the benefits of all his hard work.”
- Mick Malthouse speaking after Gibbs was awarded the 2014 John Nicholls Medal.
SEASON HIGHLIGHT
During Carlton’s Round 12 match against Geelong, Bryce Gibbs was the best player on the ground with 29 possessions and four goals. His clever snap late in the final term in many respects deserved to be the match winner.
