Chis Judd won't line up for Carlton in Saturday's ANZAC Day clash in New Zealand, while newcomer Mark Whiley also failed to make the trip across the Tasman.
Judd experienced a stiff lower back after Wednesday's main training session.
Given the length of travel and six-day turnaround before Round 5, the decision was made not to risk the dual Brownlow medalist.
Carlton's Head of Football Andrew McKay has confirmed Judd will be available to play against Collingwood next week.
Meanwhile Mark Whiley's anticipated debut was put on hold after the 22-year-old pulled up with a tight hamstring following training.
He was replaced in the squad by Jason Tutt.
Carlton remains hopeful that Whiley will debut in the navy blue in the near future.
