Marc Murphy has undergone surgery on his injured left shoulder and is expected to miss seven to ten weeks.

Carlton's General Manager of Football Operations, Andrew McKay, said surgeons assessed the damage last night and found that the fracture wasn't severe enough to warrant the insertion of a screw.

"He (Murphy) had an arthroscope last night to assess the damage. Thankfully, they didn't need to screw the bone back together. Instead, the surgeons flushed out the joint and patched him back up," McKay said.

"He'll be in a sling for four weeks and we should see him back in seven to ten weeks' time. It depends on how the bone heals."
