McLean Set to Join Carlton
Carlton CEO Greg Swann has confirmed that Melbourne midfielder, Brock McLean is set to join Carlton.
“Brock is just 23 years of age, he is a quality midfielder and importantly he plays an inside game and will provide great assistance to our running players. The fact he was keen to join Carlton is a positive reflection on our Club and the exciting outlook that many see for Carlton,” Swann said.
McLean was Melbourne’s first round selection, number 5 overall, in the 2003 AFL National Draft and he has played 94 AFL games since making his debut in 2004. He was runner-up in Melbourne’s 2008 Best & Fairest and third in 2006 and played 19 games during the 2009 season.
“We have reached an in-principle agreement with Melbourne to exchange our first round draft selection, number 11 overall, in this year’s AFL National Draft in exchange for Brock. This is subject to the finalization of paperwork during the Exchange Period and following successful medical screening we expect this to be the first trade of the exchange period which commences on Monday October 5,” Swann added.
Carlton coach Brett Ratten was delighted to welcome McLean to Carlton.
“While not official until the Exchange Period it is certainly exciting to know we will be adding such a quality midfielder to our playing group in 2010. At just 23 years of age Brock is still a young player and has great experience that will assist our young playing group. He is a fantastic in-close player and I am sure the likes of Judd, Murphy, Gibbs, Simpson and the like will benefit from his ability to get the ball out to them,” Ratten said.
“It is a great reflection on where this Club is heading to know that such a quality young player is keen to join Carlton,” Ratten added.
There will be no formal media opportunities with Brock and the Carlton Football Club until the trade is official.
