Carton Coach Mick Malthouse suspects Troy Menzel was “always the kid chasing the footy over the fence”.
The youngest of four boys, Menzel comes from a football family.
After being selected by the Blues with their first round pick in last year’s draft, the 18-year-old will make his debut in Sunday’s clash with Port Adelaide.
Mathouse says Menzel is the type of player who will always find the football.
“He’s come from a long line of football people. He’s a very likeable lad and he can play. Believe me, he can play."
Meanwhile Jarrad Waite returns to the side after a week out through suspension.
Malthouse says Waite knows he made the wrong decision and has been penalised for it.
“We just move forward and he wants to move forward. He wants us to do well and he’s out there tomorrow hopefully kicking goals, what he does best.”
