CARLTON has confirmed the extent of the injury layoff for Matthew Kreuzer.

The veteran ruckman came from the ground in the first quarter and played no further part after landing heavily on his left foot.

Scans confirmed on Friday morning that Kreuzer had sustained a fractured fifth metatarsal.

Director of High Performance Andrew Russell said it was expected Kreuzer would be on the sideline for up to four months.

"We thought that was a possibility last night: we were hoping it wasn't the case but the MRI did confirm it," Russell said.

"He will have surgery next week and he'll miss up to 16 weeks."

The news was better for Charlie Curnow, with the forward undergoing successful surgery this week to remove wires in his knee.

Russell said the Club was expecting to ramp up Curnow's recovery in the coming weeks.

"When he originally hurt his kneecap, the surgeon put wires in his knee to strength it up and help with the heal," he said.

"Until they came out, we really couldn't do a lot of strength work with his quad.

"It's good for Charlie and it means we can really start to get stuck in with his rehab."
