SENIOR Coach Daniel Harford was thrilled with the application and drive of his side in the 21-point win over St Kilda.
Just don’t mention ‘the F word’.
The Game Changers recorded their third consecutive win as they accounted for the Saints on Saturday night in a bruising hitout.
It was Carlton’s ability to grind out a result and generate scores through sheer force of will that pleased the Senior Coach.
He said the form St Kilda had shown in its opening month in the competition meant his side knew it was going to be a challenge.
“They made us earn it, don’t worry about that,” Harford said to media post-match.
“It was pretty pleasing, it was pretty hard. St Kilda plays a really structured game: they’re hard to break.
“To do it like we were able to do in the third quarter was very pleasing.”
While currently having played a game extra than their closest rivals, the win puts Carlton eight points clear in the top three of Conference B.
However, Harford said it would very much be a case of ‘one week at a time’ at Ikon Park.
He was adamant that he and his side weren’t looking too far ahead: his response to a question about locking in a top three spot said it all.
“Nope, nup! I’m struggling to think what’s happening tomorrow, let alone in three or four weeks time,” he said.
“Melbourne is a really good team, so all my attention - I’ll let the girls enjoy the victory tonight - goes to Melbourne in Alice Springs. That’s our next challenge and they’re a serious threat.
“There’s a lot of water to go under the bridge before we’re worried about what’s happening after that.”
