CARLTON will appeal the charge of careless contact with an umpire handed down to Jack Martin yesterday.
The alleged incident occurred during the second quarter of the Blues' Marsh Community Series game against Fremantle on Saturday. Martin had been offered a $1,000 fine with an early plea, but the Club has decided to contest the charge.
This season, tribunal proceedings have been simplified for challenges to financial sanctions, where at the election of the charged player, a single legally trained jury member may decide the matter on the basis of written submissions only and the charged player will not be required to attend a Tribunal hearing.
The written submission has been made, with an outcome expected to be known by tomorrow morning.
The Club has accepted the other financial sanctions handed down to co-captain Sam Docherty, Jack Newnes and David Cuningham yesterday.
