Promising Carlton midfielder Grace Egan has received a Round 4 NAB AFL Women’s Rising Star nomination after a brilliant performance against Adelaide.

In her fourth appearance as a Game Changer, Egan gathered 18 possessions (seven contested), took six marks and laid four tackles in Carlton’s vital eight-point victory.

The 19-year-old was selected with pick No. 13 in the 2019 NAB AFL Women’s Draft and has hit the ground running since arriving at Ikon Park.

In her debut year, Egan is averaging 16 disposals, three marks and six tackles, highlighting her consistency in the Navy Blue.

Egan has shown remarkable resilience even before being drafted to Carlton, with the Shepparton local often making a 400km round trip to get to training sessions in Melbourne.

After missing out on an AFLW list spot in her draft year, Egan turned to VFLW and impressed for Richmond, playing 12 games and averaging 13 disposals.

Egan becomes Carlton’s seventh Rising Star nominee, following up the efforts of fellow 2020 draftee Lucy McEvoy, who was nominated for the NAB AFL Women’s Rising Star in Round 1.

Current teammates Breann Moody, Madison Prespakis and Georgia Gee, as well as former teammates Bella Ayre and Tilly Lucas-Rodd are the Blues’ other past nominees.

Carlton AFLW Senior Coach Daniel Harford praised Egan’s work ethic throughout the season.

“Grace has shown an amazing appetite to get better since the day she walked through the door,” Harford said.

“She has become a very popular member of our team because of her drive, personality and energy.

“This has been a very bright start to what we hope is a very long career in Navy Blue.”

Two players are nominated for the AFLW Rising Star award each week of the AFL Women’s season. AFLW players aged 21-or-under as of January 1, 2020 are eligible for the award, provided they haven’t been previously nominated.
