The Carlton Football Club is pleased to announce that Stephen Silvagni has been appointed as the Club’s new GM - List Management and Strategy.

The role of GM - List Management and Strategy, is a newly created position at Carlton whose primary focus is to lead the strategic direction of the playing list, manage player contracts, along with trade and free agency. Silvagni will work closely with Carlton’s National Recruiting Manager Shane Rogers, and report into Head of Football Andrew McKay.

Silvagni returns to Carlton after a decorated career with the Blues, where he played 312 games, was a dual premiership player (1987 and 1995), seven times All-Australian and fullback in Carlton’s Team of the Century and AFL Team of the Century. He is also a Carlton Life Member and an inducted ‘Legend’ in Carlton’s Hall of Fame.

In addition to his Carlton credentials, Silvagni brings to the role a wealth of football experience. Since 2011 he has been the List Manager at Greater Western Sydney and prior to that he worked as an assistant coach at St Kilda and a specialist coach at AFL clubs Collingwood, Sydney and the Western Bulldogs.

Carlton CEO Steven Trigg says he spoke to a number of candidates and Silvagni was the stand out.

“Since retiring from playing Stephen has gained more than a decade of experience in football roles, most recently as a List Manager for the Giants. His football knowledge and experience as a player, coach and administrator will be a tremendous asset to our Club,” Trigg said.

“It’s also a wonderful synergy that Stephen is returning to his former home at Princes Park – his passion for Carlton has certainly shone through in all of our conversations.

“This appointment is in line with our commitment to better resource our list management area, as recently outlined in our vision for Carlton’s future.

“We are certainty committed to bolstering our elite list management and football programs, and I’m confident that Stephen is the right person to ensure we deliver on this.”

Silvagni will officially commence in his new role on January 19, 2015.
