NEW Blue Mua Laloifi has already experienced some highs and lows in her first two games in the Navy Blue.

The high was a win against Richmond by 34 points, and the lowest of the low: a loss to Collingwood by 15 points.

Laloifi was nervous about her first game with Carlton, but didn’t let her nerves get the better of her.

“As soon as I walked in, there were a lot of people kind of looking at you and so I just put my head down,” Laloifi said on the Behind the Game Changers podcast

“There were a lot of cameras, you kind of feel like Oprah.”

After fighting through the nerves and arriving at the ground for the game, the 26-year-old defender received some simple yet good advice from AFLW defensive coach, Steven Salopek.

“‘Sal’ (Steven Salopek), our defensive coach, he just said have fun,” she said.

“It made me feel comfortable and obviously with the girls the vibes are good.”

A crowd of 15,000 made it down to Ikon Park for the season opener of the AFLW 2020 season, but Laloifi insists she could not hear a thing.

Locked into the game and doing her best to keep play her role in a talented Richmond forward line, the defender blocked out the roars of the crowd to ensure she wasn't caught out of position.

“I couldn’t really hear it, I was too busy focusing on what I had to do,” Laloifi said.

“There were a lot more people though, a lot more colours, it was sick.”

It was, unfortunately, not the result Laloifi was hoping for in Round 2 - suffering a disappointing loss at the hands of the defender's old team.

This week, Carlton will take on the Western Bulldogs in their annual Pride Game and look to right the wrongs of Round 2.

“At the end of the day we just didn’t play to our strengths and they pulled that apart,” she said.

“They came out and picked it and we just didn’t adjust.

“We’ve got a lot to learn and I reckon this weekend will be the chance to execute [what we’ve learnt].”
