“HE HAS helped our training go to another level, in terms of his tackle ferocity.”

Carlton recruit Jack Martin is making his presence felt during pre-season at Ikon Park.

With 97 games under his belt, Martin has brought his energy and physicality to his new club, impressing all comers since arriving in late November.

After a frustrating wait to begin life as a Blue, Martin is leaving no stone unturned in the lead-up to the 2020 season.

Speaking to Carlton Media, Andrew Russell - the Club’s Director of High Performance - said Martin’s impact had been profound.

“You’d think that he has been here for two or three years. He has slotted in seamlessly,” Russell said.

“He has been impressive and has really attacked his work well. Physically, he hasn’t missed a session and done everything that has been asked of him.

“The thing that has stood out is his physicality — he’s tough, he’s hard.”

Having played in all areas of the ground throughout his six years at the elite level, Martin’s progression in pre-season will be music to the ears of Carlton supporters.

However, he’s far from the only one impressing those in the know at Ikon Park.

Russell was quick to single out 20-year-old Paddy Dow and 21-year-old Will Setterfield for their work in recent months.

“We’ve got some guys who have been in our system for two, three or four years that are lighting the track up: Paddy Dow is one of those guys,” he said.

“His aerobic ability needed to improve and it has, a lot. He can be one of the best movers in the game and we’re seeing more of that.

“Will Setterfield… we think we’ve got a really good player on our hands. He has done some special stuff on the training track.”
