The Blues are set to play in a number of big clashes during the 2017 home-and-away season. Following the release of the fixture on Thursday morning, we take a closer look at some of the epic games to look forward to next season:

Season Opener

The Blues will kick off the 2017 AFL season, as well as their own premiership campaign, at home against Richmond in the traditional blockbuster clash on Thursday 23 March at the MCG.

After a long, football-free summer, this is one fiery and exciting encounter no AFL fan wants to miss.

Blues Under Lights

The Blues will play more games under lights next year, with seven night games scheduled across the season.

Carlton will open the season in the traditional blockbuster with Richmond on Thursday 23 March, and then face Port Adelaide in Round 5 at Adelaide Oval in the Club’s only Friday night game for the year.

The Blues will battle the Gold Coast Suns on two separate Saturday nights in Rounds 4 and 13 respectively, before heading west to face West Coast at Domain Stadium on a Saturday night in August.

Carlton is also set to host Geelong and Hawthorn in blockbuster Saturday night clashes at Etihad Stadium in the second half of the season.

Afternoon Delight

Carlton fans will expect some fierce encounters across 12 games scheduled in the family-friendly afternoon slots in 2017.

The Blues have back-to-back Sunday afternoon clashes in Rounds 2 and 3 against Melbourne and Essendon, and then a double header of Saturday afternoon clashes across Rounds 6 and 7 against Sydney and Collingwood respectively.

Carlton will continue to host a variety of family-friendly activations at all home games across the season to ensure Blues supporters young and old can enjoy a complete match-day experience.

MCG in Three

The Blues will play at the traditional home of football – the MCG - for the first three games of the season, facing Richmond, Melbourne and Essendon respectively.

It will be a case of ‘déjà vu’ when the Blues line up against those three teams in the back half of the season – along with Richmond, Essendon and Melbourne, we will also face Sydney and the Gold Coast Suns on two occasions in 2017.

G’day SA

For the first time in nearly three years, the Blues will head to South Australia when the side faces Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval in a Friday night blockbuster.

Traditional Timeslots, Traditional Rivals

With an increased number of traditional timeslots in 2017, the Blues will face old foe Essendon in a Sunday afternoon hit-out at the MCG in early April, before facing the Bombers again in Round 20.

Somewhat controversially, the Blues only meet arch-rival Collingwood once next season in a Saturday afternoon clash at the MCG in Round 7.

Following their season opener in March, the Blues will then face the enemy in Richmond in Round 14 in a Sunday afternoon clash at the MCG.

Saturday Night Fever

The Blues will feature in a string of Saturday night clashes in 2017, with the first Saturday night game against Gold Coast at Etihad Stadium in Round 4.

Carlton fans will be hoping their side can replicate this year's memorable victory over Geelong when the Blues battle the Cats in Round 19 at Etihad Stadium in a Saturday night blockbuster.

Blues fans are also set to mark the Round 22 clash against Hawthorn in their diaries, which will shape as a big Saturday night blockbuster at Etihad Stadium.
