CONSISTENCY is key for inaugural Blue Gab Pound heading into her fourth AFLW season.

After a strong finish to her 2019 campaign, Pound has returned for pre-season fit and firing ahead of AFLW 4.0.

Speaking to Carlton Media at the weekend’s pre-season camp at Lake Dewar, the All Australian noted her greatest goal was to continue to steadily improve heading into 2020.

“My goal for this season is probably just keep being consistent, that was my goal last year and it worked out pretty well,” Pound said.

“I’m just trying to keep it on a nice, smooth run and trying to do those extra things and try to get even better than the year before.”

Coming to the end of AFLW Blues' second week of pre-season, Carlton’s seven off-season recruits are beginning to show their strengths as players.

Above all, it’s Carlton’s No.2 selection that has been impressing Pound in the early going.

“It’s been really sweet, I think they’ve slotted in nice and smoothly. Everyone’s getting around each other so they’re looking pretty good,” she said.

“Probably our No.2 draftee Lucy McEvoy, she’s moving pretty smooth and I can’t wait to see what she does for us.”

As for the returning Blues, Nat Plane - who was Carlton’s VFLW co-captain in 2019 - has continued to impress Pound ahead of what she predicts will be a breakout season for the crafty Blue.

“The biggest improver [is] probably Nat Plane. She’s worked super hard and she deserves everything she can get,” she said.

“I think she’s going to run pretty cool on the track.”
